Scholarship

I’ve taught educational psychology and psychology courses at the college level and numerous natural and physical science courses at the secondary level both online and in-person. I continue to exercise my teaching skills as a facilitator, motivator, reflective and culturally-sensitive research educator. My passion for teaching and learning through active, minds-on processes is influenced by the constructivist theoretical perspective. Therefore the instructional focus is on preparing students for the real world. Learning through the construction of knowledge inevitably encourages students to become competent, independent thinkers with transferrable skills. I have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and fostering human learning and development through the lens of mentorship. Research interests include psychological experiences of learners (PK-16) in STEM learning contexts and/or mentoring-like relationships. Professional goals include improving the academic trajectories of students who experience marginalization (e.g., girls, low-income students, racial/ethnic minorities), particularly through critical, culturally responsive, and equitable frameworks (e.g., mentoring interactions).
